Seven Years of Building Community, Together
It’s been seven years since Udhë first connected two strangers heading to the same destination. What started as a simple idea—finding an empty seat filled with good company—has grown into a vibrant community of more than 50,000 members across Kosovo and the Balkans.
Every day, hundreds of rides are shared. New friendships form. Journeys become affordable. The platform keeps growing, and we’re incredibly grateful for that.
But with growth comes responsibility. And with responsibility comes the need for change.
The Challenge of Scale
When a community is small, trust is personal. Everyone knows everyone. Problems are rare, and when they happen, they’re easy to resolve with a quick conversation.
But at 50,000 members and counting, the dynamics shift. We’re now seeing challenges we couldn’t have predicted in our early days:
- Fake accounts that disrupt trust and create confusion
- No-shows from both passengers and drivers, wasting everyone’s time
- Double bookings that leave drivers with empty seats and passengers stranded
- Last-minute cancellations that make planning impossible
- Vague or false reports that make it hard to protect the community
These aren’t just technical problems. They’re community problems. And they require community-level solutions.
We’ve spent months listening to your feedback, analyzing patterns, and designing systems that preserve what makes Udhë special while addressing what’s holding us back.
Today, we’re introducing Udhë 1.7.0—the most significant update in our platform’s history.
What’s Changing, and Why
New Community Policies (Effective February 1st, 2025)
Starting February 1st, 2025, we’re enforcing new guidelines designed to protect everyone’s time, trust, and experience:
1. One Person, One Account
Every user will be limited to one account with one verified phone number. This helps us:
- Eliminate fake profiles and spam accounts
- Hold users accountable for their actions
- Build a foundation of trust and transparency
- Effectively manage violations when they occur
2. No Overlapping Ride Reservations
Passengers can no longer book two or more rides in the same time period (±1 hour). This prevents:
- Double bookings that waste drivers’ time
- Empty seats caused by passengers hedging their bets
- Frustration for drivers who plan around confirmed passengers
3. 60-Minute Cancellation Lock
Drivers and passengers cannot delete rides or cancel reservations within 60 minutes of the scheduled departure time. This ensures:
- Mutual commitment to planned trips
- Fewer last-minute disruptions
- More reliable experiences for everyone
4. Enhanced Reporting System
We’ve completely redesigned how reports work:
- Report categories help us understand issues faster
- Mandatory descriptions prevent spam reports and provide context
- Faster resolutions through better-organized feedback
- Accountability for those who misuse the reporting system
These aren’t restrictions for the sake of control. They’re guardrails for a healthier community.

Introducing the Udhë Wallet
To support these policies and ensure the long-term sustainability of the platform, we’re introducing the Udhë Wallet—a new system that balances fairness, accountability, and growth.
How the Wallet Works
For Drivers: A 15% Platform Fee
Starting with version 1.7.0, drivers will pay a 15% fee on each completed ride. Here’s what you need to know:
- Rides remain cash-based—passengers still pay drivers directly in cash
- The fee is automatically calculated after the ride is completed, based on the number of passengers and the price per seat
- The fee appears as a payment due in your wallet
- You can pay this fee at your convenience through the app
Why this fee? Running Udhë isn’t free. Server costs, app development, customer support, and continuous improvements all require resources. This fee allows us to:
- Keep the platform running smoothly and securely
- Build new features that make your experience better
- Provide responsive support when you need it
- Grow sustainably without relying on ads or selling your data
We know this is a change. But we believe it’s a fair exchange for a platform that connects you with passengers, handles bookings, manages communications, and protects your safety.
For Everyone: Accountability Through Penalties
The wallet also serves another critical purpose: holding everyone accountable.
When community rules are violated—such as:
- Not showing up for a confirmed ride
- Canceling within the restricted 60-minute window
- Repeated violations of community guidelines
…a penalty will be added to your wallet balance.
These penalties aren’t about punishment. They’re about ensuring fairness. When someone doesn’t show up, others are affected. The wallet makes sure everyone takes their commitments seriously.
Wallet Limits and Debt
We understand that life happens. Sometimes you’ll owe before you can pay. That’s why:
- Your wallet balance can go into debt (up to -€10)
- Once you reach -€10, you won’t be able to post or book rides until you settle your balance
- You can check your balance, view pending fees, and make payments anytime in your profile
This system is designed to be flexible but fair—giving you breathing room while keeping the platform functional and trustworthy.

Why Now?
We could have waited. We could have let things continue as they were. But that wouldn’t have been fair to the thousands of responsible users who rely on Udhë every day.
Version 1.7.0 is about protecting what we’ve built together—and making sure it lasts for the next 50,000 members, and beyond.
What Happens Next?
Starting today, version 1.7.0 is available for download. You’ll see the new wallet feature in your profile and start experiencing the improved reporting system.
On February 1st, 2025, the new community policies will be fully enforced. Make sure you’re familiar with the changes before then.
We’ll be here to answer questions, gather feedback, and support you through this transition. If something isn’t clear or you run into issues, reach out—we’re listening.
A Letter to Our Community
Change is never easy, especially in a community as close-knit as ours. We know some of these updates may feel like restrictions. But we also know that without structure, communities crumble.
Udhë has always been more than just a carpooling app. It’s a movement toward smarter, kinder, more sustainable travel. It’s a network of real people helping each other get where they need to go.
Version 1.7.0 is our commitment to keeping that alive.
To the drivers who’ve shared thousands of rides: thank you for making this possible. To the passengers who’ve trusted strangers to get them home safely: thank you for believing in this idea. To everyone who’s reported issues, suggested features, and helped us grow: thank you for caring.
Let’s keep building this together—responsibly, sustainably, and with the same spirit that brought us here.
